Happy Halloween from @thematrescence 💀🎃🦇🕷  With a few Halloween’s under our belts with kids in tow, we wanted to share a few tips. If you’re anything like us, you’re scrambling last minute to gather all of the pieces to the costume, fix the face paint, and re-attach fairy wings. All the hustle and bustle can be overwhelming and leave you in a frenzy not being able to fully enjoy the holiday. First and foremost, manage your expectations. They’re still toddlers/babies so meltdowns are likely to happen, and thats ok!

🍬don’t stress over candy, you’ve created a healthy foundation for your kiddos
😑manage everyone’s (including yours!) expectations
🐯costume prep! Try it on BEFORE it’s time to head out the door
🥣serve a filling meal (protein + fat) before you head out

I wish that I could go back in time. Back to this naive mama in the video who thought “that would never happen to me”. I had the support system you dream of. I worked in healthcare. I had dealt with anxiety in my life, so I knew what to look for.

What I didn’t know…

What I didn’t know is that I would be blindsided. I would struggle + fake it for over a year because *I was stronger than this*. I would cry through the night and float through the days because *I was stronger than this*. I would not allow myself to process the trauma that was fueling this beast with my other son and thought that I was *for sure stronger than this”. I loved being a mom more than anything on earth, so there is no chance I’d struggle.

I was wrong. Postpartum anxiety was a thief. It stole precious days + moments, it strained relationships, and it breaks my heart for the mama in this video who didn’t see it coming, despite the chaos that was happening in my life—it was the perfect storm.

In hindsight, it has shaped my future. I’m now a psychiatric nurse practitioner focusing on perinatal mental health It has given me passion-driven purpose to help other women avoid the pitfalls I faced. I feel like my experiences have led me to this exact spot and it lights my soul on fire helping mamas. If I help one woman avoid struggling with postpartum mental health struggles, my mission will be served.

Today is pregnancy & infant loss Remembrance Day. Today (and always) we remember the angel babies who went before us. As hard as it may be, ask those mamas about them. Talk about them. Say their names. I guarantee that mama thinks about them often. Every due date. Every birthday. Every occasion. We can’t take the grief of loss away, but maybe we can uphold them with love. If you are the 1 in 4, know that you are not alone in your suffering.

An angel in the book of life, wrote down my baby’s birth & whispered 🌬 as she closed the book, “too beautiful for Earth 🌎”.
